Grandville Protestant Reformed Church, a daughter church of Hope Protestant Reformed Church, Walker, MI., was organized as a congregation in February, 1984 with 25 families. Our congregation belongs to the Protestant Reformed Churches in America, a federation of churches that stands in the Calvinistic tradition of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. We subscribe to three Reformed creeds - the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dordt - and believe that these creeds faithfully summarize the teachings of the Bible. Romans 10:9,10.

Scripture

The Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and without error. In the Bible, God teaches us about Himself and our salvation in His Son, Jesus Christ. II Timothy 3:16

Trinity

God is a Triune God, three Persons in one Being: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

God's Sovereignty

God is sovereign over all things. His all-powerful rule extends over the entire universe. No creature or event is outside of His eternal plan. He works all things according to His own counsel to the praise of His own glory. Exodus 20:11

Holiness

God is perfectly holy and righteous. He created Adam and Eve, our first parents, to reflect His holiness, but they rebelled against God and as a result died spiritually. As descendants of Adam, all mankind is guilty and worthy of God's wrath.

Mercy

But God is a God of mercy and love, and has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for all the sins of His people. The Son of God was incarnated into our human flesh, born of a virgin, lived in perfect obedience to God, His Father, and suffered the eternal wrath of God on the cross for all His people. Jesus rose from the dead and now rules at God's right hand.

Covenant

God is sovereign in this work of salvation. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone. The Holy Spirit regenerates our spiritually dead hearts and we are given faith to believe the promises of the gospel. Through the means of grace, chiefly the preaching of His Word, we grow in a life of holiness, turning away from sin, and serving God in thankfulness. Through Christ, God has established an eternal covenant between Himself and His elect church. In this covenant, established and maintained by His sovereign grace alone, God loves us as friends, takes us into His own Family, and joins us to Christ so that we are heirs of eternal life.

Particular Grace

God's love is particular. God effectually works His salvation only in his elect people. He does not offer the gospel to everyone for them to accept or reject at will. Rather, He saves those and only those whom He has chosen in Christ before the world was created.

Eternal Judgment

Jesus is coming again to judge the living and the dead, and to gather all His people to Himself. Those who believe in Him will dwell with Him in heavenly glory, but those who do not know God and obey not the gospel of Jesus Christ, will suffer God's eternal wrath in hell.

God is such a great and glorious God that He is worthy of our worship, honor, and praise all the days of our lives. He commands everyone to worship and honor Him. In obedience and through His grace, we strive to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Our worship services are characterized by reverence and respect for God and His Holy Word. Our Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Our worship is centered on the Word of God, because we believe the preaching of the gospel is the means by which God gives us His grace, teaching us His ways, and calling us to constant repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

We sing versifications of the Psalms in our worship services. We believe that the psalms are the song book which God has given to His church and thus should have prominence in our worship.

Our worship liturgy is simple, but significant. The elements of worship - prayer, singing, preaching, and giving to help the poor - are taught in the Bible as belonging to worship, and therefore, we use only these elements in our worship.

Our children are present in our worship services. They are there because we believe that our children are God's heritage and as such must be instructed in the history and doctrines of the church. We believe that God works faith in them at an early age and that they, too, benefit spiritually by the preaching of the gospel.
